January 2016 Mid-Atlantic Blizzard

The Mid-Atlantic Blizzard of January 2016 was a crippling (Category 4) snowstorm that buried the Mid-Atlantic region with about 2-3 feet of snow (O'Leary, 2016).

National Weather Service, 2016

In addition to heavy snow, this storm packed very strong winds, especially along the East Coast, with gusts up to 60 mph (National Weather Service, 2016).

National Weather Service, 2016

Due to the long duration of strong winds off the Atlantic Ocean, many coastal areas experienced significant storm surge. This caused extensive damage from coastal flooding (National Weather Service, 2016).
